ABOUT THE EXHIBITION PROGRAMME 2022-23

The exhibition programme for the next season is finally ready. Despite some last-minute changes, it was the most varied yet. We are looking forward to the Night of the Arts and the official opening of the season with Jukka Suhonen‘s exhibition Je suis la mort. After that in September textile artist Helena Kaikkonen from Oulu will take over the gallery.

After the Apokalypsis project ws postponed, we replaced it with Sivuttain / Sidlänges –  a joint exhibition of 10 Finnish photographers, which will be on show throughout October. The artists taking part are Onni Aaltonen, Aino Aksenja,Noora Geagea, Elina Julin, Kreetta Järvenpää, Christian Langenskiöld, Marja Saleva, Paula Saraste, Marja Söderlund, Ulla Schiltdt and Juha Vakkilainen.

An international artist cancelled her arrival Lapua Residence, so unfortunately the exhibition could not take place. However, thanks to a tip from a friend of the gallery, we were able to replace it with the BC Ensemble, a recycled art exhibition which was a big succes in Tampere last summer.

Artists from Vaasa are represented this season by Cata Ahlbäck in the autumn and Mia Damberg and Inkeri Viljanen in the spring.

The year 2023 will be opened by strong painters Marja Karisalmi and Mira Kankaanranta. For both of them, this is their first time in Vaasa. Mia Damberg’s exhibition will be shown in two parts, on both sides of the winter holiday. Graphic artist Antti Tanttu is also showing his work in Vaasa for the first time in a solo exhibition. Inkeri Viljanen brings her melancholic and quietly humorous paintings to the gallery at the end of April.

The season will close with an exhibition by the Helsinki-based Japanese artist Shoji Kato, curated for us by Paula Toppila, Executive Director of IHME-Helsinki.

Before the official opening, we will be hosting Katja Kokko’s exhibition Vintage Love during Pride week. The opening is on Monday 11.7. at 17-19. Welcome!
